The Full Travel Guide

Rock is tucked on the north Cornwall coast, across the Camel Estuary from Padstow — easy to reach once you know the route, but worth planning ahead for, especially in peak summer traffic. Here's everything you need to know.

By Car

From London and the South East Expect roughly 5-5.5 hours via the M4/M5, depending on traffic — allow extra time on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings in July and August, when the A30 through Cornwall can back up significantly.

From the M5 Leave the M5 at Exeter and continue on the A30 towards Bodmin, then follow signs for Wadebridge and Rock. The final stretch into the village is single-track in places, so allow a little extra time on the approach.

Parking at TREALLEN ROCK On site parking for two cars is included.

By Train

The nearest mainline stations are Bodmin Parkway and Newquay, both roughly 25-30 minutes away by taxi or pre-arranged transfer. Direct trains run from London Paddington to Bodmin Parkway, making this a realistic car-free option if you're happy to arrange a taxi or transfer for the final leg.

By Air

Newquay Airport (NQY) is the closest, around 30 minutes from Rock by car, with direct flights from London Gatwick and a handful of other UK airports depending on season. Exeter Airport is a further option for slightly more flight choice, at around 1.5 hours' drive.

The Padstow Ferry

If you're planning a day trip to Padstow during your stay, the passenger ferry across the Camel Estuary is the easiest way across — a 5-10 minute crossing that avoids the longer drive around via Wadebridge. It runs seasonally and tidally, so check crossing times on arrival rather than assuming a fixed timetable.

Our Advice

If you're driving from London or the South East, we'd suggest travelling on a Friday rather than a Saturday where possible — Cornwall's roads are significantly quieter, and you'll get an extra evening to settle in before the weekend crowds arrive. Whatever your route, once you're here, Rock itself is easy to get around on foot, with the beach, restaurants and ferry all within walking distance of TREALLEN ROCK.
