WHERE TO STAY IN ROCK, CORNWALL
An honest local guide to hotels, holiday homes and the best places to base yourself, from the owners of TREALLEN ROCK.
Rock is a small village on the Camel Estuary, opposite Padstow, with sandy beaches, dunes, golf, sailing and walking on its doorstep. It has a handful of places to stay rather than a high street full of them, so it helps to know the options before you book. This guide covers the main types of stay, including self catering holidays in Rock, Cornwall, as well as the different parts of Rock and the surrounding villages, and what to check before you choose. We own and manage TREALLEN ROCK, a luxury holiday home here, so we have included it too, and we have tried to be fair about who each option suits.
WHERE TO STAY IN ROCK AT A GLANCE
Hotel: best for short breaks, couples, a fantastic restaurant on site, stunning views of the estuary. St Enodoc Hotel is the best known in Rock. Rooms book up early in summer and at weekends.
Self-catering holiday home or cottage: best for families, groups and longer stays. Your own kitchen and garden, and usually parking. Check bedrooms, beds and minimum stays.
Bed and breakfast or guest house: best for couples and walkers. Smaller, with fewer places in the village. Check parking.
Holiday park or apartments nearby: best for budget-friendly or resort-style holidays. Often a little outside Rock, in Polzeath or nearby.
WHERE TO STAY IN ROCK OR NEARBY
Rock village and the estuary. The most convenient base for the Padstow foot ferry, pubs, the sailing club and the water. It is also the busiest in summer.
Porthilly. A quieter stretch along the estuary, with views across to Padstow.
Daymer Bay and Trebetherick. A wide, sheltered beach and the dunes below St Enodoc Church, about two miles from TREALLEN ROCK. Good for families and walkers.
Polzeath and St Minver. Polzeath is a short drive away, with a surfing beach and a livelier feel. St Minver is a quiet village inland.
Padstow. Across the water by ferry. Padstow has plenty of restaurants and shops but is busy, and parking is limited.
WHICH TYPE OF STAY SUITS YOU?
A family or a group of friends: a holiday home gives you space, a kitchen and somewhere to park, so you can eat in or out as you like.
A couple on a short break: a hotel or a smaller holiday home keeps things simple.
Wedding guests: Rock is close to several wedding venues around the estuary. Book early, as accommodation fills quickly in the wedding season. See our wedding guest accommodation page.
Walkers and golfers: staying near Daymer Bay or the coast path saves driving, and a holiday home gives you parking and space to spread out.
