Just across the water from Rock sits Padstow — one of Cornwall's most celebrated food towns, and one of the easiest reasons to leave TREALLEN ROCK for an afternoon. Whether you walk the coast path, drive round in under twenty minutes, or take the water taxi straight across the estuary, Padstow's restaurant scene is worth the trip.

Rick Stein's Padstow

No guide to Padstow is complete without mentioning the town's most famous resident. Rick Stein's restaurant empire has effectively shaped modern Padstow's reputation as a food destination, and the flagship Seafood Restaurant remains the one most visitors want to try — think fresh Cornish shellfish and a menu built entirely around the day's catch. Stein's group also runs several more casual spots around town, including a fish and chip shop, a café, and a deli, so there's a way in whatever the occasion or budget.

Paul Ainsworth at No. 6

A genuine rival for Padstow's best table, Paul Ainsworth at No. 6 is tucked away on Middle Street and consistently rated among Cornwall's finest restaurants. Expect inventive, produce-led cooking in an intimate townhouse setting — well worth booking ahead for a special occasion during your stay.

Caffè Rojano

Also part of the Paul Ainsworth group, Caffè Rojano offers relaxed Italian-leaning dishes with the same quality kitchen behind it, in a more casual, family-friendly setting — a good option if you want a proper meal without the formality of No. 6.

Getting there from TREALLEN ROCK

Part of the charm is the journey. The passenger ferry (or water taxi, depending on timing) crosses the Camel Estuary from Rock to Padstow in a matter of minutes, running throughout the day in season — arguably one of the nicest short boat trips in Cornwall, with Padstow's harbour coming into view as you cross. Prefer to drive or cycle? It's a short trip round the estuary.
