Where to Eat in Rock and Padstow: A Local's Guide

Rock and Padstow sit on opposite banks of the Camel Estuary, connected by a passenger ferry that takes about ten minutes — and between the two of them, you've got one of the best small stretches of coastal dining in the country.

We get asked for restaurant recommendations more than almost anything else, so we've put together the list we actually send to guests staying at TREALLEN ROCK. These aren't the biggest names or the most-photographed plates — they're the places we'd take our own friends.

A Rock & Wright pub right on the water, strong on fresh Cornish seafood and a proper Sunday roast. The terrace at sunset is one of the best seats in the village. Booking recommended in peak season.

Four Boys, Rock

A ten-minute drive inland to a beautifully unspoilt 15th-century pub — log fires, real ale and honest pub classics. A favourite for a quieter evening when you've had enough of the coast for one day.

Across the water in Padstow

Padstow's reputation as a food destination isn't hype — it genuinely punches above its weight for a town its size, largely thanks to decades of investment from the Stein family, whose restaurants, delis and cookery school anchor much of the town's food scene alongside a strong cluster of independent seafood spots.

Getting there: the Rock–Padstow passenger ferry runs on a seasonal timetable throughout the year, roughly every 20 minutes at peak times in summer. It's the fastest and most scenic way to cross — quicker than driving round via Wadebridge.

With panoramic views and the surf right outside, Surfside serves delicious locally sourced food, while the adjoining Rum Bar boasts over 90 rums and live music from local musicians. Good for lunch, dinner or a sundowner — a short drive from TREALLEN ROCK.

Booking tips for peak season

A few things we tell every guest:

Reserve as early as you can for July and August — popular spots in both Rock and Padstow get booked out days in advance. If you're set on a specific Padstow restaurant for a Saturday night, call a week ahead rather than the day of. And if a table's fully booked, ask about their bar or walk-in seating — several of the places above hold back a handful of tables for exactly this.
