Blue Flag Beaches Near Rock, Cornwall: Where to Swim, Surf and Stroll

What does a Blue Flag actually mean?

Blue Flag is an international award for beaches that meet strict standards for water quality, safety, environmental management and public information. Cornwall had ten Blue Flag beaches for 2026, announced by Cornwall Council in June. The award is judged for the summer bathing season, so it is worth checking the current list before you travel.

Polzeath

Polzeath is the nearest Blue Flag beach to Rock, about 8 minutes drive from TREALLEN ROCK. Porthmissen (Trevone)

Porthmissen, usually called Trevone, is a sheltered bay just outside Padstow, and also on the 2026 Blue Flag list. It is a gentler option than Polzeath.

Beach days in winter

Blue Flags apply to the summer season, but the coast is at its quietest and most dramatic out of season. In January, a wrapped-up walk along Rock Beach or Daymer Bay, followed by a warm drink and a warming fire back at the house, is hard to beat.
