Self-catering stays for your wedding party

Planning a wedding can feel like a lot, especially when every venue looks beautiful online. This guide is a starting point for couples and wedding guests who are looking at North Cornwall, with seven venues around Rock and Padstow, from a hotel above Padstow harbour to a marquee field on the water.

We look after TREALLEN ROCK, a luxury holiday house in Rock, so we see the wedding season from the guest side every year. We know which venues have their own rooms, which don't, and how often a wedding party needs somewhere nearby for the rest of the guest list. That is the angle of this guide.

Staying with EVLA Stay ensures you are within reach of local churches including St Minver and St Enodoc, as well as a number of wedding venues throughout North Cornwall including St Enodoc Hotel, Dinham House, Trewornan Manor, Dinham House and Pengenna Manor.

A note on the details: capacities, rooms and policies change, and some of the figures below come from venue listings, so please confirm everything with the venue before you book. Where we haven't been able to verify something, we've said so.

The venues

St Enodoc Hotel, Rock

  • Style: boutique hotel in the village, part of The Ainsworth Collection.

  • Views: Camel Estuary.

  • Rooms: around 20, with newly renovated event spaces overlooking the Camel Estuary

  • From TREALLEN ROCK: 20 minute walk or 2 minute drive time.

St Enodoc is the most central choice in Rock, with the estuary on the doorstep.

Dinham House, near Rock

  • Style: a 40-acre wedding and events estate with exclusive-use grounds

  • Views: Camel Estuary

  • Accommodation: up to 16 guests in cottages and shepherd's huts, with nearby camping for larger parties.

  • From TREALLEN ROCK: 8 minute drive time.

Dinham House suits couples who want a whole estate to themselves.

Porthilly Farm, Rock

  • Style: an informal marquee and tipi wedding field overlooking the Camel Estuary, run by sisters Kate and Amy Marshall.

  • Accommodation: none on site

  • From TREALLEN ROCK: 20 minute walk or 2 minute drive time.

Porthilly is right on Rock's doorstep and ideal for a relaxed, outdoor wedding. With no accommodation of its own, couples and guests need to arrange somewhere nearby to stay.

Trewornan Manor, near St Minver and Wadebridge

  • Style: a boutique wedding venue in 25 acres, just inland from Rock.

  • Accommodation: 7 en-suite bedrooms sleeping up to 14 guests.

  • From TREALLEN ROCK: 7 minute drive time.

Enough beds for close family, but often not the full guest list.

Pengenna Manor, near St Teath and Wadebridge

  • Style: an exclusive-use wedding venue.

  • Accommodation: the 5-bedroom Manor sleeps 10 and Watergate cottage sleeps a further 8, with free on-site camping as an overflow option.

  • From TREALLEN ROCK: 19 minute drive time.

A good option for a wedding weekend. Guests who would rather not camp often book a self-catering house nearby.

Padstow Harbour Hotel, Padstow

  • Style: a renovated Victorian boutique hotel above the harbour, with lawns for drinks and photographs

  • Capacity: ceremonies and seated wedding breakfasts for up to 80 guests in the Marine Room, per a third-party listing; smaller spaces suit up to 30.

  • Accommodation: 58 bedrooms, sleeping up to 114 people, and exclusive use of the whole hotel is available.

  • Views: harbour and Camel Estuary.

  • From TREALLEN ROCK: 30 minute drive time (ferry and drive time).

A rare choice with plenty of rooms of its own, in the middle of Padstow, a short ferry ride from Rock.

Prideaux Place, Padstow

  • Style: a historic house in Padstow, with the Great Hall, the Drawing Room, the Elizabethan Dining Room and an outdoor Temple and Gazebo area.

  • Ceremonies: civil ceremonies, with accessible access and guest parking.

  • From TREALLEN ROCK: 30 minute drive time (ferry and drive time).

A grand setting for couples who want a traditional house wedding. Plan accommodation for guests separately.

Planning tips for a North Cornwall wedding

  • Ask about beds first. Some venues have rooms, some have a few cottages, some have tents and some have none. Find out early how many of your guests the venue can house.

  • Book accommodation at the same time as the venue. Weekends in the wedding season fill up quickly, and so does everything around Rock and Padstow.

  • Plan the journey home. The Rock to Padstow ferry stops well before a wedding evening ends, so book taxis early. Our Getting to Rock guide has the practical details.

  • Think about the season. Winter weddings are quieter and often better value, and the coast is dramatic out of season.

  • Check dog policies. Venue policies differ, and so do holiday homes, so confirm before you travel. TREALLEN ROCK is a pet free property.
