St Enodoc Golf Guide

St Enodoc is one of the reasons golfers keep coming back to this stretch of Cornwall — a genuine links course, a few minutes' drive from TREALLEN ROCK, that regularly features on lists of the UK's best.

Set on the dunes above the Camel Estuary, the course is best known for its Church Course — a proper old-school links layout shaped by the natural contours of the land, with the famous "Himalaya" hole (the 6th) requiring a blind tee shot over a towering dune. It's a course that rewards local knowledge and punishes a wayward drive, which is exactly what links golf is supposed to do.

What makes it worth the trip

Beyond the golf itself, the setting is the real draw — estuary views, dune-top holes, and the kind of weather-shaped, natural terrain you don't get on a parkland course. St Enedoc Church, once half-buried in the dunes beside the course and the resting place of poet Sir John Betjeman, adds a bit of history to the golf as well.

Booking a tee time

St Enodoc is a private members' club that also welcomes visitors, but tee times — particularly on the Church Course — get booked up well ahead in summer. If you know your travel dates, it's worth contacting the club directly to book as early as you can, ideally as soon as you've confirmed your stay. Shoulder-season months (spring and early autumn) tend to be easier to get into at shorter notice, with the added benefit of a quieter course.

Good to know: the club operates a dress code and handicap requirements for visitors on the Church Course, so check current visitor policies when you book rather than assuming.

Making a day of it

A round at St Enodoc pairs naturally with lunch back in Rock afterwards — The Mariners or Four Boys are both a short walk from the course and well suited to a post-round table. If you're travelling with a mixed group of golfers and non-golfers, the beach and coast path at Daymer Bay sit right alongside the course, so non-playing guests have somewhere to spend the same few hours.
