Valentine's in North Cornwall: a romantic weekend in Rock

Valentine's Day 2027 falls on a Sunday, which makes it a natural weekend away, and North Cornwall in February is quiet, wild and very good for two. The beaches are almost empty, the coast path is yours, and a long lunch followed by an early night needs no booking at all.
We look after TREALLEN ROCK, a luxury holiday house in Rock, Cornwall, UK that sleeps six, so we see how couples use this coast out of season. This guide is built from the walks, cafés and places we send guests to, with links to our fuller guides. It is not a set of rules for a perfect day: pick one or two and leave the rest.
A note on the details: opening hours change in winter and some places close or cut back in February. Please check each place before you set off, and book ahead for dinner on the 12th, 13th and 14th.
Romantic things to do around Rock
Walk the coast in winter light
The best of February is outdoors, wrapped up. The walk from Rock towards Daymer Bay and Polzeath is our favourite, and it is at its quietest this time of year. See our Rock to Polzeath walk and our three coastal walks straight from Rock for routes and timings. Check the tide before you set out.
Find a view with no one else in it
Brea Hill, Porthilly Cove and the dunes behind Rock Beach all feel private in winter. Our guide to quiet spots and scenic views near Rock covers where to go and the best time of day for each.
Cross the water to Padstow
The passenger ferry from Rock takes you to Padstow harbour in minutes, which makes a day out feel like a small adventure. Wander the harbour, browse the shops and have lunch. Our foodie's guide to Padstow has ideas. Check the ferry's winter timetable before you go.
Stop for tea on the way
A slow afternoon tea is made for a short winter day. See our guide to the best afternoon tea near Rock.
Where to eat
A Valentine's table is easy to find around Rock, Polzeath and Padstow, but the good ones book out for the weekend. Reserve early, and ask whether the kitchen is open on the night.
A pub dinner: see our guide to gastro pubs in North Cornwall.
A special dinner in Padstow or Rock: see where to eat in Rock and Padstow.
A lunch by the sea in Polzeath: see eating out in Polzeath.
A morning pastry and a coffee to go: see our coffee shops and bakeries near Rock, Trebetherick and Polzeath.
If you would rather stay in, a Cornish welcome hamper comes with every stay at TREALLEN ROCK, and the vineyards guide is a good place to find a bottle to go with it.
Where to stay
